Bicycle Accidents
Whether you ride your bicycle for fitness, recreation, or commuting, being on the roads with cars and trucks is dangerous.
While adding bike lanes and improving infrastructure shows growing support for cyclists, it also means there are more cyclists on the road. And careless, impaired or distracted drivers put those cyclists at risk. Whether it’s a car, truck or bus versus a bicycle, crashes involving cyclists happen all too often, usually with severe injuries and huge medical expenses for the cyclist. Trial Lawyer Carlos Zelaya is an avid cyclist who has represented injured cyclists throughout southeast Louisiana.
What should I do if I get into a bike accident?
If you have been involved in a bicycle accident, it’s important that you follow these steps:
- Call the police and make sure they file an accurate crash report. Borrow a phone if necessary.
- Go to a hospital, doctor’s office or clinic and seek necessary medical attention as soon as possible.
- Take accident scene photos including your bicycle’s location. Also, take pictures of any visible injuries. Again, borrow a phone if necessary.
- Get the driver’s name and insurance information. Take photos of the vehicles involved including license plates.
- Get the names and contact information from any witnesses to the crash.
- Contact the Mumphrey Law Firm as soon as possible.
